Jocks hit the magazine racks in 1986 and was a publication geared towards dance music and disc jockey life. So content included information about the latest dancefloor releases, record charts, label reviews, radio playlists, DJ's themselves and lots of DJ equipment.
After just a few years in print, 1991 to be exact, Jocks was transformed into "DJ" magazine, a mag that is still in biz today.
The cover I have on display at the top here is dated 1986.
From a 1987 issue I plucked out this article above about a new record label called Syncopate. As well as a general overview of the label it also contained a bit of interesting music trivia in that it was Paul Weller who suggested getting the Style Council's graphic designer, Simon Halfon, to do the Syncopate artwork.
Underneath the article is my 7 inch copy of Syncopate's first release - Lola "Wax The Van" - a record that was co written by Arthur Russell who was a well known figure on the underground dance music scene at the time.
